Are you aware of your limits?

Are you aware of your limits? Limits you say, “If I can imagine it, I can achieve it” (William Arthur Ward). That’s my motto. There may be some truth to this, or perhaps more to “if you can’t imagine it, you can’t achieve it”. However some limits, margins or boundaries are healthy for us personally, for our relationships and for our work. As a counsellor and a supervisor I need to be aware of the limitations of my professional ability and training, when it is best that I refer a client to a more qualified professional. I need to be aware of personal boundaries, for both myself and the people I accompany. If I am not, I could breach ethical and professional codes. Limits that are there for everyone’s protection. I have limits so I can say yes to the things I want to do and no to things that aren’t priorities for me in this season.

Are there limits or boundaries you need to create, or reinforce?
